M4500 Based System Upgrades

HSM and HSK product lines are electronic control upgrades for two-piece can making machinery designed to reduce scrap, increase quality and increase efficiency. These systems are designed to interface with the existing control system, providing control for the critical portions of the machine. Both the HSM and HSK product lines perform the same machine control functions with the difference being in how the systems are packaged.

The HSM product line consists of door mountable modules with a built-in keypad/display and all necessary I/O to implement the respective control. The HSK product line consists of the required hardware components necessary for installation inside the user's existing control cabinet. The HSM modules provide the lowest cost solution because of the "All In One", door mounted design.

Cupping Presses

IMPORTANT SAFETY WARNING:

The following cupping press control systems are high-speed logic gates to provide consistent and accurate control. The systems are not designed as redundant, dual-processor clutch brake safety modules and must not be the only means of the machine clutch control mechanism. Good design practice dictates the use of safety interlocks on any device that starts or stops automatically that can cause personnel injury to operating or maintenance personnel. These systems must be used only in conjunction with industry approved safety interlock contacts, implemented in accordance with ANSI B11.1 safety requirements, otherwise serious personnel injury may result.

Cupping Press
High Speed Logic Module

  • Controls: clutch solenoids, air strip solenoids, die jam/cup jam detection, scrap jam detection, and more…
  • Reduces tooling damage by accurately detecting die jams/cup jams on up to 16-out presses. De-activates the clutch at TDC to prevent additional stroking at detection of die fault on any station.
  • Provides repeatable air strip control to prevent air stripping and blow-out problems.
  • Accurately controls clutch with brake wear compensation algorithm to stop press at TDC regardless of brake response.
  • Can be used on virtually all types of cupping presses.
  • Module provided for door mounting on the existing user's control cabinet door or console.

  • Reduces scrap by reducing the number of cans blown-off for each miss-load, typically by 50% or more.
  • Increases quality by eliminating silver cans, partially printed cans, and partially varnished cans down the line. Eliminates inside litho (printed mandrel) problems as well.
  • Provides Q.C. Select-A-Can blow-off feature for print quality verification of each blanket at full production speeds.
  • Operates at speeds up to 2,400 Cans per minute.
  • Can be used on all Rutherford Basecoaters (both carriage trip models and two coater roll models) as well as all Decorator models.

Decorator
Pneumatic Ductor Control

  • Provides control of pneumatically actuated ductors and allows adjustment of the ductor cycle rate to one tenth of a can resolution. Slowing down the mechanical ductor system helps control friction and heat build-up of the foutain and ductor rolls.
  • Increases quality by providing consistent color quality and eliminating color variation with changes in machine speed.
  • Change-over time is reduced by recalling ductor cycle rates from last time label was run.
  • Wider decorator operating speed by eliminating color variation as a function of speed.
  • Operates at speeds in excess of 2,400 Cans per minute.
